Bush is trying really hard to regain the ground he lost over Katrina and many other things that just aren't going right. There are some who are quick to forget and who will go back to supporting him.
The only news outlet that I see that is continuing to hold his feet to the fire is Anderson Cooper on CNN. Most of the rest of the media seems to be moving on to other things. I think this is a huge mistake. He needs to be held accountable. People need to remind the media that he is responsible for the deaths of untold numbers of people. How?
It was Bush who gave 5 of the top 8 FEMA appointments to his cronies. It is because of their inept handling of Katrina, at least in part, that caused some of those deaths.
If he had appointed someone who could really do the job maybe, must maybe, some of those lives would have been saved. That makes him responsible and he should be held accountable.
What can be done to insure that he IS held accountable? What will it take to get the media to continue to insist that he answer for the mistakes and not just let him move on? Whatever it is, it needs to happen.
Maybe people need to write/phone their Senators and Congrespersons and insist that an independent commission be formed similar to the 9/11 Commission. If memory serves me rightly, that commission came about because of the families of some of the 9/11 victims not taking no for an answer. Maybe someone needs to start a similar movement regarding Katrina.
Whatever it takes it needs to happen. He must be held accountable.
